MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS 2010

Notice of Nomination For Office
Notice is hereby given to the electors of the municipality of the United Townships of Head, Clara & Maria that nominations for the offices shown below may be made by completing nominations on the prescribed form and filing the same in the office of the Clerk, accompanied by the prescribed filing fee of $200 for the Head of Council (Reeve) and $100 for all other offices.  The filing fee is payable by cash, certified cheque or money order.

A nomination must be signed by the candidate and filed in person or by an agent during regular business hours between January 4, 2010 and September 9, 2010 and between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on September 10, 2010 (Nomination Day). 

Please ensure that you have completed and submitted to the Clerk (or designate) a Nomination Paper - Form 1 and a Consent to Release Personal Information form.  Also, pick up a candidate's package which includes other pertinent information and forms you will require during your election campaign.



Head of Council or Reeve - One (1) to be elected at large
Councillors - Four (4) to be elected at large

Renfrew County District Board of Education (English Public) - 1 Trustee
Renfrew County Catholic District  School Board (English Separate) - 1 Trustee
Zone 3 French-language Separate District School Board No. 66 - 1 Trustee



In the event that there are an insufficient number of certified candidates to fill all positions available, nominations will be reopened for the vacant positions only on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and such additional nominations, if required, may be filed in the office of the Clerk.

Electors are hereby given notice that if a greater number of candidates are certified than are required to fill the said offices, voting places will be opened on Monday, October 25, 2010 between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. for the purpose of voting.  Advance voting will also be held before October 25, 2010 on a date or dates to be announced.

WHO MAY VOTE?

Any person who on voting Day meets the following qualifications is eligible to vote:

  1. Is a Canadian Citizen;
  2. Is at least 18 years old on Voting Day;
  3. Reside in the municipality or is the owner, tenant, or spouse or same sex partner of the owner or tenant of land;
  4. Any person not prohibited, by law, from voting.

THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE ARE NOT ENTITLED
TO VOTE

The Municipal Elections Act, 1996 prohibits the following individuals from voting:

  1. Any person who is not a qualified voter;
  2. A person who is serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution;
  3. A corporation;
  4. A person acting as an executor or trustee;
  5. A person who has been convicted of corrupt practices under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 in the last four years;
  6. Anyone who is prohibited, by law from voting.
